A few weeks ago we were tipped off about a new IPA coming to LA by way of Golden Road, Better Weather IPA. There wasn’t much known about the brew other than the 9.4% ABV along with the can design. Fast forward to last Saturday where Meg Gill and Tony Yanow gave us an early peek at their new “winter warmer”.
Less a winter warmer, more of a tribute to the idea of a California winter. This IPA packs in the hops, along with the notion of light sweaters and flip-flops to round out your day. Co-Founder Meg Gill told us, "When Tony convinced me to move to LA to build a brewery together, his one-liner, was 'You'll love it, the weather's better.' This beer exhibits the best of LA and is some of our favorite beer yet.'"
Over the last year Golden Road’s Custom IPA series has gained a rather large following. Starting off with Burning Bush followed by Heal The Bay IPA, and now Better Weather will find itself at home with an audience eager for a taste. Brewmaster Jesse Houck had this to share, “Better Weather IPA carries smooth toffee undertones balanced by a huge hop character for a marriage of seasonal flavors and West Coast propensities.”
At 9.4% ABV and about 92 IBUs, the India Pale Ale offers the warmth of a winter beer while favoring the grapefruit pith, resin and stone fruit notes of the West Coast Warrior, Zythos, Cascade, Centennial, Amarillo and Simcoe hops – veering away from the holiday spices typical of winter beers. Better Weather will be available in Golden Road’s signature tall-boy 16oz cans, and will retail in packs of four.
