Out of the Park Pizza, one of the original restaurants to carry a high volume of craft beer in OC, is set to open second location.
When Dan Smith, his wife, Donna, and his parents, Matt and Tricia, decided to open the original Out of The Park Pizza four years ago, they really had one mission: Provide a fun hangout where people could get a hold of some good pizza and craft beer.
People frequent Out of the Park Pizza (OOTPP) in Anaheim Hills for a multitude of different reasons: the family atmosphere, the arcade, the crazy karaoke, the ridiculously excellent pizza or, in my particular case, the 33 constantly rotating craft beer taps.
From what owner Dan Smith tells me, Out of The Park Pizza 2 in Buena Park will have all of that goodness, and so much more.
When you walk in to the new restaurant, you notice some distinct differences from the original. The indirect red lighting gives it a sleeker, edgier feel, and the booths let you know that there are slightly more private dining opportunities here for your party. At the same time, this place is HUGE. We’re talking twice the size of OOTPP1.
For families coming in with kiddos, the arcade area is about twice the size of the original restaurant’s. It also goes back to something that hasn’t been seen at OOTPP 1 in years: a Dave & Busters-esque ticket and prize system.
For those of us without offspring, or for parents who need some adult time, there’s the Billiard room and (my personal favorite) the 21-and-over bar area. In the 16-and-over Billiard area, you’ll find two pool tables(permit pending), foosball, dart boards, shuffleboard and other such fun that you’d expect to find in your neighborhood pub. In the 21-and-over bar area, you’ll find an impressive 40 taps of craft (mostly) beer. That’s right, folks. While you’ll still be able to order food and drinks from the bar, there will also be a separate ordering area for anyone under the age of 21. No more worrying about whether or not a kid is standing behind you while you’re voicing your frustrations about the game that is on at the bar. Plus, there’s an entire room of booths and tables designated for 21-and-over ONLY!
No patio at this location, but fear not Karaoke regulars! They have a designated Karaoke room, where the Wednesday/Friday Karaoke nights will continue. They’re also planning for it to be bookable for parties(cross your fingers that the permit comes through soon!).
If you aren't in to karaoke, but still want a private party, there are 3 “team” areas that can host up to 6 “teams” at once.
I also got a peek at the kitchen, which looks to be approximately the same size as the original restaurant’s dining room. A little tidbit I picked up there? OOTPP 2 plans to have burgers on their menu!!
Out of The Park 2 is set for a soft opening this Friday, January 30th! If you're a member of a homebrew club, you can check it out tonight!
