Borderlands Brewing Company was started in 2010 by two close friends, Michael Mallozzi and Myles Stone.

Both Mike and Myles have been avid brewers for many years, but they started Borderlands after being involved in careers far outside of the brewing industry. Michael obtained a PhD in Microbiology, and does research on disease-causing bacteria at the University of Arizona. Myles is a medical student (also at the U of A), and is working towards his long-time goal of becoming a family physician (amended to family physician/brewer).

Mike and Myles met Blake Collins shortly after starting the Borderlands Brewing Company. Blake is one of Tucson’s most respected homebrewers, and also has a wealth of professional brewing experience. Blake acted as an unofficial adviser to the brewery for several months before Mike and Myles asked him to join Borderlands as the head brewer (it wasn’t a long conversation).

Borderlands is located in Tucson Warehouse Arts District in a building that was built in the early 1900s, and is the former home of Tooley and Sons Produce Company.

Borderlands

Still young the crew at Borderlands has been working hard over the past year. They are constantly working to refine their beers and after this winters expansion they are offering a very broad selection and have a MUCH better availability overall. Atmosphere is great as they are in one of the loveliest spaces available in downtown can get crowded and loud! Parking can be a bit of an issue if you choose to drive a car. Anyone that knows Tucson knows that the journey across town can be a little rough depending on time of day etc. but if you are in the downtown/UA area Borderlands is easy to access even with all the construction currently underway downtown. I can't recommend the Horchata Wheat or the Noche Duce Vanilla Porter enough! Oh, and on most nights they do try to bring food trucks in, I chose to leave the food segment blank only because the food isn't their own.
