Like the classic version, this Odd Year edition was brewed in the authentic, historical style of an imperial Russian stout, but with the addition of several hundred pounds of espresso beans from our friends at Ryan Bros. Coffee. Layers of flavor and complexity augment an already enigmatic brew, leaving this darkly delicious libation positively brimming with deep, rich espresso flavors that meld beautifully with the roasty bitterness of the dark malts.

One of the best

Stone has a record of doing this to me. They release beers that are absolutely phenomenal then stop making them. Sawyers Triple, 12th Anniversary (bitter chocolate oatmeal stout), 10th Anniversary Ruination, 09.09.09 Vertical Epic and quite a few others have all left me amazed at the flavors you can pull out of a beer and have disappeared, never to be seen again. That is the plan for this brew. This is the "odd beer for the odd year" release. This is everything but odd.
The aroma welcomes you with the familiar smell of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. The initial taste is the same. At the first sip the darkness quickly takes over your palate. Strong dark chocolate, coffee, and burnt malt are strong, but balanced. The usually strong, assaulting flavors compliment each other along with the high ABV. It leaves you with a rich, dry flavor that fades quick enough to make you want to come back for another sip.
The original Stone IRS is one of my favorite beers and this variant only improves on it. Don't retire this one!

This beer absorbs light, that's a fact.

This dark beer pours nearly black, with a thick brown head. The hoppy notes meld perfectly with the deep roasted and a rich coffee flavor.
